Hong Kong City Chinatown in Tamarac - Zagat Rated!!
By Philip Boccaccino
Just north of Commercial Blvd. on the west side of State Rd 7 ( 441) is Hong Kong City. This landmark restaurant has been in the same location for over 17 years, serving traditional Chinese dishes to perfection in a no frills atmosphere, just great Chinese food.
They are known for their barbeque roasted duck, ribs, and chicken. We loved the duck, which was roasted and falling off the bone. I particularly liked the honey-roasted pork. The barbeque chicken is accompanied with their ginger and scallion sauce, which was extremely tasty.
To get the meal started, a must try is one of their floral teas, such as jasmine or chrysanthemum which is said to have great effects on the skin.
The outstanding draw here is another type of cuisine called Dim Sum. Small appetizer portions of steamed barbeque pork and shrimp dumplings, crispy shrimp, or fried bacon roll accompanied with a homemade mayonnaise.
Their awarding winning Dim Sum has an extensive menu with plenty of goodness to choose from.
Honk Kong City has an array of unique dishes like jelly fish and braised shark fin soup with crab if you're up for trying something adventurous. Otherwise they will customize your order in any way you like and let you select your fish or fresh live lobster from one of their tanks.
You can find standard dishes like crispy chicken, Mongolian beef or shrimp with lobster sauce. But I particularly enjoyed the unique appetizers such as, three large steamed oysters, flown in from Vancouver Canada cooked in their own juices with an XO Sauce and topped off with chopped bacon.
